Fact: this is a vintage Hawaiian shirt from the ’60s that I got on the big island a few years ago. I’ve never worn it and I’m not sure why because every time I see it in my closet it makes me smile. I recently wrote an article on Sweety High where I tested out 3 different personal styling apps, and I actually used this shirt as a “challenge” for it. And believe it or not, they actually gave me some pretty good inspiration!
I’ve decided I’m now on a Hawaiian shirt kick and want to start a collection. They remind me of my dad in the 1990s and 2000s (can anyone say Tommy Bahama?) and are undeniably summery. It’s like going on vacation without leaving home. But now that I think about it… I’d much prefer a vacation.
I went with a yellow, A-line skirt because it’s a very ’60s silhouette and plays homage to the decade my Hawaiian shirt hails from. I also just wanted to go for it and pair it with something unexpected. I can’t get enough of my denim kimono and wear it with just about everything because I am obsessed. Also, you know how I feel about white shoes — they are the shit and I wish I had a million pairs.
