Navy + Black Love Affair

mix 1

I am a HUGE advocate for mixing navy and black together. I know people have mixed feelings on this matter, but I’ve never quite understood why. This outfit is all about finding blues and blacks in your wardrobe that compliment each other.

Funny enough, it was raining the day I wore this outfit. I really don’t like wearing pants when it’s raining because somehow I always get them wet and then I’m stuck with soggy pants all day. So, if the temperature permits, I like to style skirts for rainy days. I wanted to style the button down skirt of Instagrams past… remember this guy? You’ve seen it a billion times styled with stripes and body suits and platforms, so I challenged myself to make it (somewhat) seasonally appropriate. I grabbed a black, crew neck, knit sweater and my cozy black, knit thigh highs. WARNING: knit thigh highs can look really REALLY bad, so you have to be careful when styling them. They can also add bulk to your thighs if they hit you at the wrong spot. Just wanted to throw that out there. I wanted the effect of wearing ginormous, tall boots, so I slipped my feet into these leather knee high boots. And, I must say, I was quite warm. read more

Mom Jeans (Can) Mean Business

mom 3

Yep, you heard that right – I’m styling up my favorite mom jeans for a day at the office! Now, let’s be clear, I have a creative work environment so I can get away with wearing just about anything I want to work. However, I think this outfit could easily work for a casual Friday outfit for those of you who have to get a bit more buttoned up for the office.

These 501 Levi’s have kind of changed my outlook on mom jeans all together. I haven’t had a lot of luck with fit in the past, but then, I found these guys and I’m in love! I’ve worn them several times before on the blog, including this ‘70s look which is one of my personal favorites. Aren’t they flattering? Turns out you don’t have to be a supermodel to pull off the look! read more

My Intentions For 2016 & This School Girl Look

school 5

Throw on a mini skirt and a pair of high boots because… we’ve just completed the first full work week of 2016! I never did a post on my resolutions for this year for several reasons. First, I don’t like to call them resolutions – instead, I prefer to call them intentions. Resolutions implies that you and I have problems we need to fix. Whereas, intentions set a vibe for the year.

Last year – the intentions I set were personal growth and travel. I can honestly say that last year, I fulfilled my intentions more than I could have even imagined. I went to San Francisco several times along with New York and Palm Springs. I visited New Orleans for the first time, which was a real treat for me. I had the chance to explore Santorini, Mykonos, and Athens, Greece; Istanbul and Kusadasi, Turkey; the Amalfi Coast in Italy (Positano, Sorrento, Pompeii;) and Rome and Tuscany, Italy.  read more

Monogram.

LEVI 3

Why is everything better when it has your initials on it? I have towels… laptop cases… and now, a denim jacket! I first spotted a monogrammed Levi’s jacket on my co-worker, Meg Cuna, and she was kind enough to hook me up with her friend at Levi’s so I could get my own! I haven’t taken this baby off since — I absolutely love it.

Here I went a little less expected, and used the jacket to dress down a fancier look. I started off with a gray turtleneck and tucked it into a high waisted, black pencil skirt with an insanely cool fringe hem. Something about a fringe skirt always gets me excited, and I’ve found myself reaching for them more and more often. Since I was at work and needed to be comfortable, I went with low rise ankle booties and my Levi’s topper; but, for the party after work, I switched out my boots for a sexier high heel. All Gray Menswear

Mens 4

Even though I’m not a tomboy, I really feel comfortable in suiting. It makes me feel like I’m in the 70s rocking a bad ass YSL Le Smoking Jacket. I’m not, but I will be one day — I hope! It’s been a bit colder, so I gave my suiting a winter makeover by picking up separates in wool.

You guys know I’m a sucker for monochrome and anything gray, so I went for a head-to-toe gray “suit.” Now, I don’t have a professional job, but if I did have to go to an office everyday, I would be living in this right about now (given that the sweater is appropriate, I know some work places can be very strict.) I wanted the statement pieces — blazer + trousers — to be darker than my sweater to break up the look slightly and I went with a v-neck sweater to show a little skin. read more
