TREND: LACE DRESS MEETS MILITANT BLAZER
Here’s how to wear a pretty lace dress and a tough military blazer.
A military jacket and a lace dress has to be one of the most darling combinations, don’t you think? There’s an effortlessness to this pairing that feels both feminine and gothic. Soft, cream ruffles cascading from the hemline and sleeves evoke effortless romance, balanced with an ever-so-proper Victorian high neck and a ruffled bust. Juxtaposition is key. Off-set your uber feminine frock with something structured and militant, like a vintage black wool blazer with sharp, shoulder pads and gold buttons. But beware of details, for something too tough won’t work. Look for pieces that have a hint of femininity by way of a loose ruffled tail.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever felt more… glamorous. I saw this dress and it instantly took my breath away. I’ve always been a sucker for anything lace. Add on a high low hemline, tassels, a ruffle neck, and lace-up detailing down the front and I’m basically dead. The Jetset Diaries knows how to make a good dress, that’s for sure.
I wanted to channel a Victorian feel, playing off the gorgeous, dramatic bib neck, so I decided to go with a structured, panel blazer. Something about the sharp blazer against the bohemian dress felt fresh and exciting to me.
Do you remember the holidays being more formal when you were younger? I’m not sure if it was just the area that I grew up in, but I always remember Christmas being this uber glamorous holiday, specifically Christmas Eve. We would all get dressed up in our best festive dresses, tights and mary janes and head over to our friends annual Christmas Eve party. And, it was wonderful and you could feel the magic of the season. I definitely miss those days, and I’m trying to spearhead their return. So, even though we didn’t do anything nearly as glam as the holiday parties of years’ past… I decided to put on a fancy outfit this Christmas Eve.
I still cannot believe I walked out of the house in this dress… not once, but twice! The “naked” dress trend has been all over Hollywood for awhile thanks to Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Rihanna… basically everyone who is stylish and cool has rocked a “naked” dress. I never thought in my wildest dreams I would try one of these looks out myself — I can barely show my décolletage— but, a few weeks ago I went to a holiday preview with Bebe, and they offered to dress me for the event. As I scoured the cookbook for something to wear, my eyes kept coming back to this dress.
