Spring Suiting

Nothing says ’70s quite like a powder blue blazer! This is another vintage piece that I snagged from my mom’s closet. I’ve had it for awhile, but I never really figured out how to wear it… and then somehow, it hit me. A yellow blouse! What this blazer needs is a yellow button up, and being the button-up hoarder I am, I had one.

I’m really digging this color palette. I adore the pale blue mixed with yellow and then grounded with the camel skirt. Both blue and yellow are huge colors this year, so I suggest you start experimenting, stat! read more

Baby Blues

Blues the hue! My favorite color took over the runways this year (think: Emilio Pucci, Alexander McQueen, Chloe) so you can expect to see even more blue in my daily attire. I went for head to toe blues for today’s post, and I think I’m in love.

First off, I tried out the cropped flare. I must confess, I was a bit nervous to try out these pants… but once I got them on, I never wanted to take them off! You guys know I have a thing for culottes, so the flared denim crop is a natural extension of that trend.

I adore the way blues and reds look together – maybe that’s why I dyed my hair red (hah.) In fact, the last time I wore this baby blue jacket, I paired it with

Denim + Denim + Denim = …

denim 1

So… I went for it! This is my (hopefully chic) take on Britney and Justin circa the 2001 American Music Awards, only – less embarrassing and more wearable. I’ve never worn 3 pieces of denim together and I figured I’d test it out. (Note: I originally had on a black leather moto on, but then was like f**k it I’m wearing the denim jacket too.)

The most important thing when you’re mixing denims is the color story. All the different pieces need to flow together. The jacket and jeans are in similar washes, creating a modern Canadian tuxedo if you will, and the darker chambray provides a subtle amount of contrast. I don’t typically like super jarring denim combos, a small color change is just enough to add intrigue. read more

Mykonos Blue

There isn’t another thing on this planet like the Greek Islands. They are gorgeous beyond compare, have some of the most interesting architecture, and unbeatable sunsets. I have been thinking about traveling to Mykonos and Santorini for such a long time, about 20 years now. The Greek Islands have a government protected color palette of white and blue, so naturally, I wanted to sport my best Mykonos blue.

I have had this Rebecca Taylor dress for a long time, like a really long time. And, I’ve never worn it until now! For those of you who don’t know, I interned at Rebecca Taylor for 4 years in college (hear more about my career path here) so, I got a lot of free Rebecca Taylor clothes. Most of them I have gotten rid of by now, but this dress always felt special to me, so I never tossed it even though I still hadn’t worn it. To give you a time frame, I probably got this dress 9 years ago. read more
