How to Wear Purple Eye Shadow

Can I say how much I love where beauty and fashion is going right now? After years of homogenized minimalism, fashion and beauty is finally fun again, thanks to lead designers like Alessandro Michele from Gucci. Personality reigns supreme and summer’s looks are all about play–having fun with your makeup, experimenting with new colors and textures, and feeling inspired by art and nature.

When I saw Hailee Seinfeld wearing lilac purple eyeshadow on the Golden Globes red carpet earlier this year, I knew it was a look I wanted to try. We’ve seen no shortage of colorful eye makeup looks as of late–I’ve even tried out pink and blue myself–so purple seemed like the next obvious hue to play with.

I’ll be honest, I’m not much of a purple person, but this look changed that for me! If you have green eyes, purple is an awesome color for you because it really compliments your eye color. I used LORAC’s mega pro palette 3 in Dusty Mauve, which sadly you can only buy on Amazon for a very steep price these days. It’s a great palette but not sure it’s worth $188…

I kept my face makeup soft and clean, with light coverage, a little contouring and brows. I just did a standard blend out for the shadow and used the same color for a stiff drop shadow as well. Then, a little pearl shimmer on the brow bone!

Healthy Red Hair Allison McNamara

I love being a redhead. I dyed my hair two years ago and haven’t looked back! It’s such a fun hair color to have, but it also requires a lot of maintenance and the right mix of products. Which is why I’m so excited to be teaming up with L’Oreal as an ambassador for their EverPure line of hair care products. Fun fact: the L’Oreal EverPure shampoo and conditioner were the first two products I bought the day I dyed my hair red. I needed to get a sulfate free shampoo that was safe for color-treated hair, and I am so happy that I found such a great, quality product so early in my red hair journey.

The L’Oreal EverPure Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner are so hydrating, and they leave my strands feeling silky smooth and glossy. They also help combat dryness, which is something I struggle with now that I color my hair often, and are especially gentle on color, so I don’t have to worry about my color fading as fast. It already feels like I spend so much time at the salon (every six weeks on-the-dot at Sally Hershberger salon with super colorist Cassondra Kaeding!) so I really rely on my L’Oreal EverPure shampoo and conditioner to keep my red hair looking fresh for as long as possible. No dull red allowed here! I can’t wait to share my other fave products from the EverPure line, so make sure you stay tuned!

xx

THE TRICK TO PULLING OFF PINK EYESHADOW TREND

It’s easier than you think.

If there is one trend you want to try out this year, it’s going to be the pink eyeshadow trend. From pink winter coats, to candy-colored eyes and lips, to pink suiting, bubblegum hues are going to be just about everywhere. The pink eyeshadow trend has been big throughout awards season on Lily Collins, Emma Stone, and Sophia Bush. So I thought, let’s give this pink eyeshadow trend a go!

I dabbled in this trend slowly with a light pale pink lid a few months ago, and decided to go for it this week with pretty pink peepers courtesy of Too Faced’s Sugarpop palette in Bubblegum. I love the rich shade of this shadow and how it pops against my fair skin. For the lips, I adore this opaque pink gloss from Laura Mercier in Petal Pink. It’s moisturizing like a gloss but has the pigment of a lipstick, brilliant. The top I’m wearing is vintage and I figured I’d wear something neutral in this sea of pink 🙂

I’ve put together some of my top pink makeup goodies to nail the pink eyeshadow trend for you to shop below!

THE BEST, CHEAP RED LIPSTICKS

If there is one thing that has remained the same in my life over the course of almost two decades, it’s my affinity for red lipstick. There is something about a quick coat of brilliant red lacquer that can transform an entire look and attitude. Above all, red lipstick makes me feel daring and confident, and that is priceless. You know what’s even better? Finding a cheap red lipstick that you love.

Over the years, I have had reds in and out of my life. Some were just quick fixes, others stayed past their welcome (this one red matte lip I used to use I guess wore off really easily and left a red lip liner ring around my mouth, which no one bothered to tell me until I was at the post office one day…) and others have withstood the test of time.

Finding a red that flatters your skin tone, is easy to apply, and doesn’t get discontinued can be a challenge. So below, I’ve rounded up my ultimate list of the best cheap red lipsticks that you can buy. I recently discovered Palladio velvety matte in Red Carpet and it has been my No.1 go-to lately. Some other timeless faves include Maybelline and Lancome all which I’ve curated for you below. Enjoy!

THIS IS THE PERFECT SHADE OF BURGUNDY LIPSTICK

Don’t believe me? Try to tell me this isn’t the best shade of burgundy lipstick!

What better way to get dolled up for date night than with burgundy lipstick? Burgundy lipstick is less expected than red, and compliments a wide variety of skin tones. And, it makes your teeth look white!  I like my lips how I like my wine–bold and dark. There is something about a crimson-colored, burgundy lip that is a bit edgier than a classic red lipstick… slightly more daring and risqué, if you will. I j’adore wearing this shade this time of year.

This burgundy lipstick has to be the absolute best shade in the entire world. I know that’s a bold statement, but I’m confident it won’t disappoint. I’m wearing Maybelline’s Color Sensational Lip Color in Deepest Cherry. Maybelline’s Color Sensational line has been a go-to of mine for years, and you can shop my exact color in the link I just shared for less than $8. Back in the day when I started at POPSUGAR, I needed to get a few lip colors to have on hand for filming. So, I went to my local drug store and picked up a few of these and have been hooked ever since.

This burgundy lipstick color has been in my arsenal for years and I heart it so much, and I know you will too! But, there are also some other beautiful options below that also get my full stamp of approval. And finally, why stop there with a burgundy lipstick when you can throw on a burgundy, polka dot scarf too? Get shopping below,
