HOW TO GET THE NO MAKEUP MAKEUP LOOK:

The no makeup makeup look has been around forever, and it’s also not going anywhere anytime soon. As long as their are minimalists and French women in this world, no makeup makeup will always be a thing. And while I don’t consider myself a minimalist in any sense of the word (I’ve been trying, but my closet room begs to differ) or French (unless studying abroad in Paris counts?) I am quite simple when it comes to my makeup routine.

As I’m sure you know, nailing the no makeup makeup look is actually a lot harder then you might think. To look like your wearing little to no makeup when you actually are is a challenge and requires some skill. So, I’ve put together my top 9 tips along with my favorite products that you can shop below!

1. Start With Clear Skin

I know this sounds like a no brainer, but in order to pull off the no makeup makeup look, you have to get your skin in check. The more you have to hide, the more you have to put on your face, making this look almost impossible. I have a very regimented face routine that is similar to that of a 10 step Korean beauty routine. Let me know if you want me to do a more in depth post on my skincare routine.

2. Prime With Oil

I am against anything mattifying, especially for primers and foundations. I prep my face with Josie Maran’s light Argan Oil before applying any foundation or concealer. This gives your skin a nice jolt of moisture and makes your makeup go on super smooth.

3. Face Makeup

I typically only use concealer to spot treat areas like dark circles under my eyes and redness around my nose. I am really pale (lol like you didn’t already know that) and have pink undertones, which makes to hard for me to find concealers that match my skin. Most of them tend to be SUPER yellow. I use Nars Radiant and Creamy concealer in Vanilla and Chantilly. I also like Tarte’s maracuja creaseless concealer in Fair, the lightest shade #womp.

If I feel that my skin is kind of sad and not glowy and needs a little more help, I use Dr. Jarts Radiance Beauty Balm which is legit glow in a bottle. It has a bit of a yellow undertone, but once I blend in a little concealer it works.

4. Cheeks

I have big cheeks and even bigger cheekbones, and I like a little contour without being over the top. I use a blush / bronzer mix by Too Faced called Pink Leopard and I drag it along underneath the apple of my cheek upwards to my hairline for a little definition. This is one of my favorite products EVER and I like using it for shadow as well for a monochromatic look.

5. Highlight!

The key to any no makeup makeup look is highlighter! I’m definitely not faithful when it comes to my highlighter, and I like to try new ones all the time. I prefer creamy ones like It Cosmetics Hello Light Anti-Aging Luminizing Creme Stick and RMS Beauty’s Living Luminizer. But, I also like brushing on Pur Cosmetics powder highlighter AfterGlow either alone, or on top of a creme highlighter. I highlight above my cheek bone, below the brow bone, the center of my lash line, down the bridge of the nose, the cupid’s bow and lightly on the chin.

6. Boy Brows

I’m a sucker for a thick brow. I use a tinted gel by elf cosmetics brow kit in Medium, along with Anastasia’s Dipbrow Pomade in Auburn. The elf brow kit is LEGIT $3, and it’s the cheapest, besets, favoritest thing of mine in the whole world. I use a flat brush to apply the product and constantly use a spoolie to brush the product through so it looks natural. Sometimes, I finish off my brows with Palladio’s brow gel from Sally Beauty for a more wild look that stays in place.

7. Glossy Lids

The glossy eyelid trend is going to be huge this year. I like to add a little clear gloss, like MAC’s lipglass to my lids to keep them looking soft and smooth.

8. Light Mascara

Okay, this might sound crazy, but I sort of hate mascara. I seriously don’t understand why so many women are obsessed with it. It actually drives me crazy and when it dries… my lashes feel like they are trapped in a mold and it gives me major anxiety. Perhaps I’m just real crazy (lol obvs true) and perhaps a bit OCD (also true.) The once mascara that I like is by Lancome called Grandiose Extreme and it’s really flexible, so it doesn’t make my lashes feel like they are being held hostage against their will. I also like to brush through my lashes with a spoolie after applying mascara for a super natural look–no clumps here!

9. Mist All Day

Keep your skin healthy and hydrated all day long with face mist! I LOVE Mario Badescu’s rose water and I’ve been using it for years. It’s the perfect pick-me-up for your face and keeps makeup looking fresh!
