I have been obsessed with trying out new beauty products since I was a kid. My earliest memory of beauty was when I was about 3 or 4 years old. I remember my dad giving me a small bottle of Navy, a popular perfume in the ‘80s by Procter and Gamble, where my dad worked. I later learned that the bottle was merely travel size, but I still like to hold onto the memory that that Navy bottle was made just for me. Beauty is one of the most intimate relationships that we have with ourselves — the products that we choose to layer on our largest organ, the scent that we enjoy, a go-to hairstyle, the lip color we wear… All of these choices that we make from the millions of options that are advertised to us every single day. Navigating the beauty industry is a job in itself. What products are great? Which ones just have great marketing? And what underdogs deserve more attention? I currently create beauty videos for Refinery29, so I thought, why not start doing a beauty edit on my blog? It seemed like a natural fit. So I present to you, my skincare beauty edit.
If you didn’t know that I am obsessed with anti-aging products / gadgets / procedures… now you do. I want to look as young as I can for as long as I can, and I’m willing to go to some pretty crazy lengths to preserve my youth. I have been getting botox for about 5 years now – and I’m not even 30 yet. It might sound insane to some, but working on-camera as a TV host can do a number on your psyche. Seeing my face gradually get more and more fine lines and wrinkles started to really freak me out, so I decided to do something about it. My biggest “problem” areas are my forehead and my smile lines, both of which are considered to be very active (i.e: my face has always been super expressive) which is OK, but at some point the wrinkles found permanent crevices in my skin… and that’s when I started to panic.
Nothing says *night out* quite like a choker and high boots! I’m sure by now you are well-versed in the fact that chokers are having a HUGE moment. Small, thick, ribbon, leather… just about everyone has worn one in some capacity.
I really like the way a choker looks with a high pony. This choker isn’t actually a choker, it’s a neck scarf from the Who What Wear x Target collection. That’s the beauty of a choker, you can make one with just about anything lying around your house! I still haven’t bitten the bullet and purchased one of those tattoo choker necklaces yet… I used to rock those from Claire’s in grade school!
Sunday was surreal! I’ve had the privilege of hosting at the Oscars 3 times now, and each year it gets better and better! This year, I co-hosted ABC’s On the Red Carpet at the Oscars fashion stream for 2 hours with Tina Malave from ABC7. The broadcast flew by, and we also had a few live spots on the TV show which was really cool! If you guys were able to catch the show, let me know in the comments.
I put together a vlog for you guys on my youtube channel to show you all just HOW much time and energy it takes to get ready for the Oscars. Take a look and let me know what you think! Big shout out to everyone who helped me get glam for the big day. Special thanks to e.l.f. cosmetics, Jean Dousset, and Monique Lhuiller!
One of the best perks of my job, I think, is getting to experiment with hair and makeup, especially for marquee events like the Oscars this weekend! And trust me, it’s even more fun when you have a pro helping you out.
I was lucky enough to have Simply Sona create 3 different Oscar-worthy makeup looks, and we decided to film the whole process and put it on youtube! Sona Gasparian is one of the best youtubers out there, and her background as a professional makeup artist coupled with her adorable personality definitely set her apart from the rest. Take a look at the video below and let me know which look YOU think I should wear on Oscar Sunday! And don’t forget to subscribe to my girl Simply Sona’s Youtube channel and check out her blog and her Instagram 🙂
