Beauty Edit: Skin

I have been obsessed with trying out new beauty products since I was a kid. My earliest memory of beauty was when I was about 3 or 4 years old. I remember my dad giving me a small bottle of Navy, a popular perfume in the ‘80s by Procter and Gamble, where my dad worked. I later learned that the bottle was merely travel size, but I still like to hold onto the memory that that Navy bottle was made just for me. Beauty is one of the most intimate relationships that we have with ourselves — the products that we choose to layer on our largest organ, the scent that we enjoy, a go-to hairstyle, the lip color we wear… All of these choices that we make from the millions of options that are advertised to us every single day. Navigating the beauty industry is a job in itself. What products are great? Which ones just have great marketing? And what underdogs deserve more attention? I currently create beauty videos for Refinery29, so I thought, why not start doing a beauty edit on my blog? It seemed like a natural fit. So I present to you, my skincare beauty edit.

1. Paul Mitchell Marula Oil

I color my hair, so I am always trying out different hair oils to keep my ends hydrated. You’ll quickly learn that I love putting oil everywhere… but of the oils I think hair oil is my favorite. Paul Mitchell Marula Oil checks off all the major boxes for me: it’s incredibly nourishing, smells insanely good — maybe my fave scented hair oil ever, and has chic packaging to boot!

2. Algenist Retinol Firming and Lifting Serum

Serums are another mainstay in my beauty routine. Fact: I have been incorporating Retinol into my skincare regime since I was 12-years-old. Needless to say, I swear by it, and this product by Algenist quickly became a new favorite. It helps reduce wrinkles, fine lines, and lightens discoloration and sunspots (aka freckles.)

3. Murad Rapid Resurfacing Peel

I use 90% of the Murad orange line, and just recently added these peel wipes to my routine. I love the Murad Intensive C Radiance Peel, but these wipes are awesome if you don’t have the time to commit to a face mask / peel. Peel and go, just how I like it!

4. Ren

This product is interesting because it’s something I never knew I needed. Ren is a spray that protects your skin from the environment, specifically pollution. Living in LA, we have plenty of pollution to go around, and surely enough to harm the skin. I spray a layer of this over my face and exposed body parts as a final step before leaving my house, especially if I know I’m going to be outside for awhile (Disneyland, hikes, the beach!) I wish they made this stuff in a bigger bottle!

5. Kate Somerville Age Arrest Hydrating Firming Mask

When I saw hydrating and firming in the same mask, I knew I had to try it. I’ve been a long time user of Kate Somerville – I’ve been using Exfolikate for maybe a decade – so I was eager to try something new. At first, I wasn’t into it because it doesn’t have that mask like consistency, it’s more of a lotion. But, the results are amazing and it’s quickly become a favorite!

6. Anastasia Brow Growth Serum

OK, I have been on a mission to grow out my eyebrows for about 6 months. They’re not quite where I want them to be, but they have gotten a whole lot better thanks to my Anastasia Brow Growth Serum. Get this, you will not be disappointed.
